WeChat Pay and Japanese department store operator Hankyu Hanshin have launched a first “smart flagship” store outside China. The location is the Hankyu Osaka Umeda Main Store. Shoppers can use WeChat Pay throughout the outlet. The move marks the first time that Tencent-owned WeChat Pay has entered such a close collaboration with a retailer outside China.

Hankyu has also introduced four WeChat Mini Programs for Chinese tourists, providing brand searching service, self-ordering foodservice, appointments with cosmetics brands and a range of Hankyu VIP membership services.
