Today, Target announced that it will acquire same-day delivery service Shipt for $550 million. With Shipt, the retailer believes that same-day delivery will be an option at least half of it's stores in early 2018 and that, by the 2018 holiday season, same-day delivery will be available at the majority of locations and all major markets. Same-day delivery will not only offer grocery but also household essentials and electronics, before rolling out to all major product groups by the end of 2019. Beginning next spring, Target guests can visit Shipt's website and pay a $99 annual membership fee which will get them same-day delivery services from their local Target store for the year.
